Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study of non-invasive fault location techniques in gas insulated substations. The applications of infrared thermal imaging system and temperature sensitive paint to locate in-service faults with power follow-through were demonstrated. The infrared fault location system can be applied to existing substation without retrofitting. Detection sensitivities and system parameters are presented.
