Abstract :
The article describes a method used for the construction of a prototype forced-cooled distribution duct bank in the Hydro-Quebec network. The method is especially suited to the cooling of multi-cable duct banks leading out of sub-stations which supply congested urban areas. Forced cooling is achieved by the circulation of water through two ducts of the bank and through an air-cooled heat exchanger at the sub-station. The procedure entails the determination of the cooling requirements and the choice of equipment for the cooling system and for the appropriate control and alarm systems. Results show that the construction of such a system is feasible with a possible economic saving.
