  • Abstract
This paper presents an approach to evaluating the health of a composite generation and transmission system. The functionality of the system is identified as being healthy, marginal or at risk. The outage contingencies leading the system to each of the three operating states can be identified and calculated using a security constrained adequacy evaluation procedure. The probabilities associated with the outage events in the classified domains can be utilized to calculate system operating limits and risk indices. The identified system outage events can provide power engineers with additional information which can be used to evaluate reinforcement or modifications. Studies on a hypothetical system are used to examine the effect of system load demands, facility additions and line removals on the composite system health and risk
