Abstract
Recognizing the need for human engineering in the design of nuclear power plants, the Electric Power Research Institute established a project to develop human engineering criteria and principles in a guidebook format for application to nuclear power plants design. Using the technology evolving from the Armed Forces human engineering effort, the Essex Corporation devised a guidebook composed primarily of quantitative data and functional relationships supporting the nuclear power plant design process which is fully indexed for easy use and looseleaf in format for convenient updating. The development approach employing potential guidebook users to verify the completeness, relevance, and usefulness of material content and format is presented along with an organizational outline for the guidebook.
