Abstract :
The role of the digital computer in various phases of electric filter design is summarized in this review paper. It is pointed out that as the computer made it possible to design more and more sophisticated and complicated filters, more numerical problems arose that necessitated new theoretical advances in the field. Brief descriptions of these new developments as well as assessments of the present situation are given for conventional passive, 
-active, and digital filters.
