Abstract :
Peak broken conductor loads on supporting towers in a transmission line can be estimated by a number of approximate impact factor formulae. In addition to being inaccurate, such peak load values are not sufficient to predict damage to the towers. Meaningful damage predictions require that the time history of the load be known. The proposed numerical technique produces broken conductor load histories for any line configuration.
