Abstract
A flux diversion controllable shunt reactor (FDR) was developed, which is directly connected to an electric power line and provides an adjustable lagging capacity according to the size of line load. The FDR has a gapless core, a main winding, and a control winding, and open-circuiting and short-circuitifg of the control winding provide 0% and 100% capacities, respectively. Based on the fundamental study on two different models, a prototype of 3-phase 77-kV 40-MVA reactor was constructed and subjected to various shop tests and 1-year running test on actual line.
