Abstract :
This review of the development of the "Transradio" system includes a description of the transition from the manual operation of a single Berlin-New York radiotelegraph circuit to the operation of a system involving transoceanic radio-telegraph operation between Germany and fourteen other countries and localities. The development of the use of short waves is described and a tabulation is given of the frequencies and antennas employed with various transmitters for the several circuits. Figures are given showing the growth in traffic and the decrease in the time required for handling a telegram. References are given to papers which have been published covering the studies made of the propagation characteristics of short waves.
