Abstract :
A small-signal gain exceeding 25 dB, and a 3 dB spectral bandwidth of 35 nm around 1.545 mu m are obtained for an erbium-doped silica fibre amplifier pumped in the short wavelength wing of the 1.5 mu m absorption band.
