Abstract :
There has been considerable interest in recent years in using the cumulant method for production costing and reliability evaluations. The method is simple and efficient and proves to be adequate for particular generation systems. This paper uses the method of cumulants for evaluating the Frequency and Duration indices of single and two interconnected systems. It presents approximate but practical approaches for computing the cumulative probability and cumulative frequency of generating system capacity outages. These methods are then used for evaluating the required reliability indices. The accuracy of the methods presented is illustrated using the IEEE Reliability Test System.
