Abstract
The experienced greater vulnerability to transient over-stressing in shorter length cables is shown to result from additive reflections. Two cable lengths, short and long, are analyzed for transient voltage reflections taking into account attenuation, phase shift and distortion effects. The resultant over voltages are related to possible surge diverter protective schemes and cable BIL´s.
