Abstract
This study discuss the hidden facts about the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) properties along with the examples. A thorough understanding of the Discrete-Time Fourier Transform (DTFT) would become very easy to move on to the DFT in a detailed manner. The extension of one-dimensional DFT to two-dimensional DFT would be more useful for the two-dimensional signals like images. This study focus mainly on to improve the basic knowledge to the DFT with typical exercises using Matlab simulation software tool. Applications are like data compression, power spectrum estimation and an efficient convolution. Power spectrum estimation is useful to understand the frequency content of signal and noise. The efficient convolution is more pertinent to find the response of the system for any arbitrary input. Data compression is more powerful application since this save enormous amount of bandwidth. This study demonstrate the data compression with ECG signal and compare the results using Matlab software.
