Abstract
A technique is presented for determining the probability density function (PDF) and variance of the quantization error of a sinusoidal signal applied to a uniform quantizer, namely, an ideal analog-digital converter. The results are the basis for determining the validity of the uniform quantization noise model for this class of signals. When dither is used it tends to decorrelate quantization error and the input signal. The effect of added uniform dither on the PDF of the quantizer input is investigated, as well as the PDF of the quantization error corresponding to the dithered sinusoid. The results prove the validity of the uniform quantization model in this case
