Abstract :
This paper discusses the problem of predetermining practicable dead-times for use in single-pole-switched schemes. The work is of particular importance to the design and planning of such schemes. Details of digitally simulating the behaviour of secondary arcing to a higher degree of realism than has hitherto been possible are given. The results of field test validation studies are summarised and the paper concludes with an application study relating to a power system being engineered for the Botswana Power Corporation.
