Abstract
This paper deals with the distribution of the instantaneous power (IP) in single carrier (SC) modulation. An upper bound for the complementary distribution of the IP is found using the Chernoff bound. It is also shown, as a "by-product", that the amplitude of an SC signal does not have a Gaussian distribution. The results obtained may be used to evaluate the peak factor, especially for small roll-off factors.
