Abstract :
This paper reports on low-voltage (±150 kV) paralleling and deparalleling tests on the Nelson River HVDC bipoles 1 and 2 performed in the summer of 1982 as preparation to the final high-voltage (±463.5 kV) tests after completion of Bipole 2. The control system developed for paralleling, parallel operation, and deparalleling of Bipoles 1 and 2 has been described in an earlier paper. The present paper provides additional information on these controls with respect to the control system hierarchy, telecommunication requirements and the hardware, especially the new hardware installed in Bipole 1 controls. System aspects of paralleling and special considerations for these low-voltage tests are also discussed.
