Abstract :
As subsynchhronous resonance and torsional interactions are dangers to be avoided at all costs, it would be reassuring if the resonance frequencies of static VAR compensated transnission lines are all supersynchronous. But are they? Part I provides the groundlwork to the answer, by developing the mathematical tools for the study of the resonance phencmenon based on the iteraction of the shut compensation reactance with the transmission line equations. In order that the actual complexities do not overshadow the fundauental concepts involved, idealistic models are used so that the mathematical relations are simple enough as to provide analytical insights-into the inter-play of basic parameters. Part II proves that a. supersynchronous resonant frequency limit exists.
