Abstract
This paper presents design and analysis of high-power, high-speed solid rotor synchronous reluctance motors. Different rotor forms are optimized and a new configuration which combines holes and slots is proposed. The mean torque is maximized by a cyclic algorithm coupled with finite elements method to solve electromagnetic, displacement, and thermal equations. Test results on 20-kW, 20 000-r/min, and 3-kW, 3000-r/min designed machines are compared with simulations.
