Abstract
The basic process of qualifying safety- related equipment by testing is reviewed. The practical problems associated with specifying, planning, implementing, and reporting qualification test programs are addressed. Among the topics discussed are the evolution of qualification requirements, deficiencies of equipment specifications, impractical requirements, and the lack of standard test practices. The progress being made in resolving some of these problems is mentioned.
