Abstract :
Nascent VLSI circuit technology has enabled the design of high-speed dedicated computing structure using both parallel and pipelined processing concepts. A VLSI processor design is presented which will rapidly triangulate the large, band form, matrices encountered in power system load flow analysis routines significantly faster than any current technique including the array processor approach. A circuit simulation of the proposed computing structure indicates a time savings of two orders of magnitude over traditional serial computer methods and a one order of magnitude savings over attached array processor methods. Results lead to an assessment of the significance of VLSI technology for enhancement of power system analysis and control procedures.
