Abstract
Legendre polynomials are used to approximate a smoothly varying field solution along a direction in which the geometry is invariant. The hybridization with standard finite-element (FE) shape functions defined in the cross-sectional plane leads to a discretization scheme which outperforms a standard 3-D magnetostatic FE model.
