Abstract
This paper describes the application of the Newton-Raphson method in the load balance of transient stability studies. The expressions for real and reactive power of synchronous generators are included in the steady-state equations. It is shown that existing power flow programs that utilize the Newton´s method can be modified for the load balance in stability studies with little effort. The results of tests of the described technique, as well as of the Gauss- Seidel method, on a large system are presented.
