Abstract
This paper proposes a direct adaptive feedback scheme for controlling the level of a liquid in a single conical tank system. One of the challenging tasks in the process industries is designing a controller for controlling the nonlinear process. Mainly parameter uncertainty affects the dynamic behaviour of the system. In addition to that transportation lag and load disturbances also play a major role in determining the response of the system. Hence to overcome the drawbacks of the existing methods such as auto tuning controller, GA based controller in this paper we propose a Model Reference based Adaptive controller using MIT rule, which can accommodate the parameter uncertainty of the system by continuously adjusting the controller parameters. For selecting the initial values of controller gains, the integral performance indexes namely IAE and ISE are chosen. The simulation results prove that the proposed methodology can not only minimize the effect of the load disturbances and transportation lag but also provide the improved response.
