Abstract
The equilibrium of dielectric losses and I2R losses with temperature are an important consideration for EHV bushings. A predictive equation is developed on the assumption of radial heat flow which defines critical voltages for thermal stability. Analysis indicates that thermal stability tests should be performed with rated current and 120% rated voltage during design tests to assure stability at any operating condition.
