Abstract :
A new method for a variable-speed wind turbine using a permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is simulated. The system includes a power conditioner which consists of a diode rectifier powered by a phase shifting transformer and it is then cascaded to a pulse width-modulated (PWM) voltage source inverter. The simple maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy determines the optimal active reference current which is controlled by the active current of the grid-side PWM inverter. The MPPT algorithm tracks the maximum power of the wind turbine. The advantage of the this system is that the cost can be reduced and grid side MPPT control provides better performance and provides maximum power from wind energy to the load.
