Abstract :
It is standard practice in utility system planning to develop a projection of demand for electricity over a planning period, and to use a system planning code for selection of an optimal generation mix to meet this projection. This practice neglects the effect of price elasticity if the price of electricity resulting from the optimal generation mix should differ from the forecasted price of electricity used to develop the demand projection.
