Abstract :
A relatively easy procedure for hand-calculating reasonably accurate fundamental natural frequencies of free-standing, latticed transmission towers is demonstrated. The procedure is based upon a first-order Dunkerley approximation and is illustrated by using three different yet fairly typical transmission towers. It may be employed straightforwardly to enhance standard static finite element packages or as a preliminary step in forced response or optimisation computations.
