Abstract :
Application of knowledge-based expert systems to typical power engineering problems involving diagnosis, control and design is described. A review of prototype projects completed at North Carolina State University serves to demonstrate what is involved in expert system development. The examples include a diagnostic tool for rotating-machine vibration problems, implementation of a distribution-feeder reconfiguration control scheme, and a design aid for distribution-feeder capacitor placement
