Abstract :
This paper presents the results of a laboratory implementation of discontinuous supplementary excitation (DSE). control to stabilize a synchronous machine through the use of local information such as okachine slip and acceleration. It is an extension to a previous theoretical investigation and evaluates the effects of the various control signals and the switching time sequences. The transient response of the DSE controlled machine is compared to state feedback optimal control. The results show that DSE control is effective and reliable and simple to implement.
