Abstract :
Five fast algorithms for real-time simulation of a power system are described. The algorithms provide network topology determination, matrix updating, interactive solution of power flow, selection of window of interest, and solution of equations describing the dynamic model. The prototype operator training simulator (OTS) can achieve cycle times that match AGC scan times, in the larger sized EMS computers, for power systems of about 1000 buses, even during major disturbances. The computation times for the different models and algorithms used are presented under different system conditions
