Abstract
This paper discusses several of the issues of concern in achieving effective electric utility load management. Included are a discussion of the distinction between ´conservation´ and ´load management´, definition of ´controllable load´, and a discussion of several criteria necessary to achieve significant changes in system load patterns. Examples are presented of load management applied to typical utility customers.
