Abstract :
The transient currents of synchronous machines are investigated up to some 5 miliseconds duration following a short circuit. The conventional representation, namely two (or more) network frequency, decaying ac and one single exponential aperiodic dc, does not hold in this range. As a matter of fact, the dc component may even increase for a short time following a disturbance. High speed digital sampling techniques have to take this phenomenon into account.
