Abstract
By using three-dimensional photonic crystal coatings fabricated by self-assembly of colloidal microspheres, a new method of controlling thermal radiation is presented. It is found that the total radiant flux emitted by a thermal radiation source is suppressed within a photonic bandgap regime by covering the source with the coating.
