Abstract :
The principles of harmonic interference by power lines adjacent to communication lines are presented. Emphasis is placed on the physical understanding of the phenomena, in view of arriving at a good understanding of this complex problem. The main factors involving the power system and the communication plant are presented. Practical field examples will illustrate the complex effects of power line harmonic interference into communication circuits. An engineering analysis of possible causes is presented and a guideline of possible inductive coordination solutions to apply to both power and telephone plants are proposed.
