Abstract
Finite word effects are examined for a class of block realizations that are derived from a state-space realization of the transfer function. For this class of block realizations it is found that the dynamic range of the state variables is independent of block length, roundoff noise decreases with block length and, if the filter is realized in normal form, all autonomous limit cycles can be eliminated.
