Abstract :
In a substation switchyard use of a plastic sheet immediately below the layer of crushed rock or the cement concrete pathway is proposed at locations where a high value of the grounding resistance of the human foot is required. A method to evaluate the grounding resistance of the foot when the plastic sheet is used is given. A procedure to estimate the reduction in the grounding resistance of the foot caused by a hole in the plastic sheet is proposed. The results have also been obtained through scale model studies. They compare favorably with the results obtained through the method proposed. Comparison of the touch potential with and without the plastic sheet is presented
