Development of 500 kV Submarine O.F. Cable

This report describes the development results of a 500 kV submarine O.F. cable and factory joint. We manufactured a 500 kV submarine O.F. cable (1 x 1300mm2) on trial and confirmed that it can be used in practical applications. As to the factory joint which is indispensable to the long-distance submarine cable, we succeeded in developing a factory joint having the electrical and mechanical characteristics equivalent to those of the 500 kV submarine O.F. cable and confirmed that the large-capacity long-distance submarine cable can be put into practical use.
