Abstract
The increase in demand of electrical energy by modern society together with the fast decreasing costs of solar cells, underlines the necessity of reaching decisions concerning the role of solar electrical systems (SESs) as a part of future alternate energy sources. Such decisions are influenced, between other things, by factors which may vary markedly between countries. The key questions, which policy makers are faced with, are: a) Do SESs give a partial answer to the problem of alternate energy sources, b) If the answer to the above question is positive, what is the expected share of SESs in future energy systems, c) If the abovementioned share justifies introduction of SESs, the question of own development and production versus purchasing is raised.
