            Abstract :
A method is proposed for calculating the flashover of an overhead power distribution line caused by lightning strokes to nearby ground. The results are presented in the form of a graph of flashover rate vs. BIL (basic impulse insulation level) for a 10 m high line and ground flash density of 10/km2/year. Flashover rates of lines of different heights and ground flash densities can be estimated from this graph
