Abstract
Modeling experiments applied to ceramic air-magnetic arc chutes have been developed and studied. These tests were conducted using a synthetic capacitor bank and a simplified model which contained all the arc chute parameters but did not contain moving contacts. The experiments concentrated on the following parameters: Magnetic field, plate spacing, plate geometry, and the ceramic plate material. These experiments demonstrate that modeling techniques can be effectively used on air-magnetic arc chutes to quickly evaluate a large variety of design variations.
