A new transmission scheme to reduce dispersion penalties is proposed. The method uses a directly modulated laser diode and combines duobinary coding with electrical equalisation of dispersion. Results from computer simulations of 10 Gbit/s transmission over 200-400 km of dispersive fibre are given
