Abstract :
The results of an urban field-strength survey at 35.6 megacycles are given. These results are interpreted in terms of the characteristics of the terrain as determined from a study of contour maps. It is shown that the signal varies inversely as the square of the distance within the optical horizon, and inversely as the 3.6 power of the distance beyond the optical horizon. The value of the field at one mile is shown to be affected by the slope of the ground near the radiator. A quantitative correlation with a propagation formula given by Beverage has been obtained.
