Abstract
This article presents a historical case study that illustrates the long time it takes to get a particular microwave device into clinical use. Often, during the development of a concept and eventually its implementation, competing ideas prevail due to technical or financial constraints. In some cases, the original development results in devices developed in parallel or subsequently for other medical applications
