Abstract
Digital rights issues, rather than technology, are dictating the pace of the online multimedia content revolution. Public concern over digital rights management (DRM) is growing as consumers discover that, in some respects, digital content gives them less freedom than fixed-media alternatives, such as CDs or videotapes. So far, there are three contenders vying to develop a universal system for DRM. These are Apple´s FairPlay DRM, Microsoft´s Windows Media DRM, and the Marlin Joint Development Association and the Open Mobile Alliance. In order for the Internet content revolution to continue, the principle issues surrounding DRM need to first be resolved
