Abstract :
The DIII-D Tokamak magnetic confinement fusion device has been equipped with a power-supply fault system that provides orderly shutdown in case of any of a number of faults. The nature of the fault dictates the extent of the shutdown required. CAMAC hardware accumulates data and triggers computer acquisition of diagnostic information. The system speeds diagnosis and repair of problems. A description is given of the DIII-D power systems; the field-shaping power and control; the hardware fault logic; the CAMAC power-supply data acquisition; the DIII-D data acquisition computer system; the data acquisition database and tables; the handling of power-supply data; and the power-supply fault system operation
