Abstract :
During 12 years of operation of the HVDC back-to-back tie between Russia and Finland some undesirable phenomena at frequencies close to the third harmonic have been noticed. They may become more severe after the planned upgrading of the converter station. Steady state and transient processes with dominant third harmonic and their improvement by means of filters in the power and control circuits have been studied. Recordings of steady states with noticeable third harmonic are included
