Abstract
Voltage flicker, which is a repetitive voltage magnitude change of low frequency, is one of the power quality problems. The problem is aggravated with the use of non-linear load. The paper presents the use of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) as a solution to voltage flicker. A simple control technique is proposed to control UPQC. Simulation results show voltage fluctuations at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) as well as the source current. The dynamics of the combination of Series and Shunt Active Filter is found to compensate flicker fast enough for proper operation of the system.
