Abstract :
Knowledge of the speeds of mobiles in a radio environment is a valuable input parameter to an intelligent mobility management system for predicting handover occurrences, etc. A previously published paper (see K. Kawabata et al. Proc., 44th IEEE Vehicular Technol. Conf., vol. 1, p. 371-4, 1994) reported an analysis and experimental results in the use of diversity techniques for the determination of the speed of a mobile in a nonstationary Rayleigh environment. Here the authors extended the work through a different approach and it is shown by various examples that the method has limitations
