Abstract :
While an analytic solution for the load current of a polyphase chopper is readily obtained, the determination of the thyristor and diode currents, upon which many basic design decisions depend, is an exceedingly complex task. The combined application of Fourier and symmetrical component analysis results in an enormous simplification and yields significant insights into the operation. The analysis is worked out in the context of a three-phase chopper.
