  • Abstract
This paper describes a generalized method to develop steady state model (SSM) of different electric motors comprising electric equivalent circuit (EEC) and the torque equation. In most of the books on electric motors, EEC is used to explain operation and performance characteristics of motors, but the development of these EECs is not explained convincingly. This work overcomes this shortcoming by specifically presenting a generalized method for developing EEC and the torque equation that is developed from the magnetic field and electromechanical energy conversion principles for different commonly used motor types. The method adopted in this work for SSM development using flux linkages, motor inductances and energy conversion principles is a simple, systematic and a generalized approach that can be applied to any motor type. The SSM developed in this work matches with that presented in the literatures available. Using the generalized approach presented a novel EEC for salient pole rotor synchronous motor has also been proposed.
